Digital innovation at Moffitt

Part of the vision around digital innovation when you're specifically talking about cancer care is how do you take what we've learned from digital innovation outside of healthcare and bring those concepts into healthcare

Does that allow you to schedule your appointments online for example or interact with your care team or review your labs? The other big idea here is data. Right so you've heard this concept big data but what does it really mean?

Really when it gets down to it you take those those data that are generated whether they're clinical data or data just understanding who you are as a as a person and use that to further the mission of preventing and curing cancer. So therefore can we predict who's more likely to get cancer and intervene ahead of time? Can we predict who's more likely to get sick if they're in the hospital and intervene ahead of time? Can we can we predict what are the new therapeutics that haven't even been created yet and we can predict that those are going to be the most effective and then spend our resources on those? The big data really comes down to very discreet and concrete outcomes for patients.

Innovation outcomes uh hugely related. The reason we want to innovate is to improve the outcomes. We have a very strong virtual health program and I'm very proud of the team because despite covert cancer doesn't stop. They have to come to Moffitt to get their surgeries to get their therapies but in between we can take much better care of them and understand their care by talking to them virtually.

What I would like to see is that Tampa Bay becomes the center for cell therapy in the world. Center for biotech in the world where all new therapies for cancer and other diseases are developed. I can see that happening with moffitt cancer center and many of the other institutions around the Tampa Bay area.

Digital innovation is grounded in our mission to prevent and cure cancer. Everyone at Moffitt is about that mission. Everyone. What's so great about digital innovation is we're going to help everyone accelerate that mission whether it's from the back office leveraging robotic process automation all the way through to clinical trials matching leveraging big data and artificial intelligence.
