Moffitt Cancer Center's Pancreas Interception Center (PIC) is dedicated to identifying and caring for people who may have an increased risk of pancreatic cancer. The center brings together specialized risk assessment, advanced diagnostic testing, personalized surveillance, expert treatment, and research with the goal of recognizing and characterizing features that indicate a risk of developing pancreatic cancer and delivering a care plan to prevent the development and thereby intercept the process of developing pancreatic cancer.

The Pancreas Interception Center brings together Moffitt’s Pancreatic Cyst Clinic and High-Risk Pancreatic Cancer Screening Clinic. Through this coordinated approach, patients are connected with the specialized care pathway that best meets their needs.

Our Team

A team of experts collaborates to assess pancreatic cancer risk and provide early detection, diagnosis and treatment. The PIC team includes experts in gastroenterology, pancreatic surgery, radiology, pathology, genetics and genetic counseling, medical oncology, nutrition, wellness and supportive care.

Mokenge Malafa The Pancreas Interception Center is led by Mokenge Malafa, MD, a surgical oncologist and physician-scientist specializing in pancreatic cancer, pancreatic cysts and robotic surgery for diseases that require removal of the pancreas, such as the Robotic Whipple procedure. A nationally recognized expert in pancreatic cancer prevention and treatment, Dr. Malafa serves as vice chair of the NCCN Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma Panel and leads research focused on preventing pancreatic cancer, recurrence and metastasis.
