The Department of Internal Hospital Medicine offers a one-year, in-depth fellowship designed for physicians who are board-certified or board-eligible in Internal Medicine and are seeking to strengthen their academic and clinical foundations in preparation for a career in academic medicine or further fellowship pursuits.

The program provides a unique environment that integrates clinical exposure to complex oncologic patients with robust opportunities for scholarly development. Fellows will be encouraged to engage in research, quality improvement and educational initiatives that enhance their academic portfolios and competitiveness for fellowship applications. By the end of the program, participants will demonstrate increased proficiency in oncologic patient management and a strong record of scholarly achievement supporting their pursuit of subspecialty training in Hematology-Oncology.

Onco-Hospitalist Fellowship Curriculum

Research 

  • The fellow will have six months of protected time for research interspersed throughout the year
  • The fellow will have monthly meetings with PD/APD to follow up on his progress and provide feedback on his projects
  • The fellow will be provided with a selection of mentors to aid in guiding and counseling in their academic goals
  • The fellow is required to submit at least one manuscript (ie, original research paper or peer-reviewed article) for journal publication

Core Clinical Rotations

  • The curriculum will be comprised of five, one-month-long, core rotations.
  • The first month of the fellowship will be an introductory/orientation month, during which the fellow will also receive a series of lectures focusing on critical topics in hospital oncology medicine.
  • Point-of-care Ultrasound (POCUS) Training: training will be longitudinal throughout the year
    • The fellow will ideally complete a specific POCUS training course offered through various venues.
    • The department has approved the purchase of portable ultrasound machines for educational purposes.

How to Apply 

  • Graduate of a U.S. medical school with DO or MD degree
  • Completion of an Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Residency Program
  • Personal statement, one page max
  • Current CV
  • Letter of recommendation from current program director
  • Three additional letters of recommendation
  • USMLE transcripts
  • In-training exam scores

    Number of Positions

    This fellowship accepts one fellow per academic year. This program does not sponsor visas. 

    Deadline

    February 1 of each academic year for fellowship start date of July 1 of the ensuing year
