Cellular immunotherapy is a treatment approach that is transforming the landscape of cancer care. This innovative treatment helps the body’s own immune system to fight cancer cells by helping the body’s immune cells recognize cancer cells.

Finding a Cellular Immunotherapy Specialist in Florida

Cellular immunotherapy continues to be an active area of research. However, treatments for certain cancers like certain types of lymphoma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, melanoma, head and neck cancers and lung cancer, are available through recently FDA-approved therapies as well as clinical trials.

At Moffitt, we continue to make significant progress in researching and developing new cancer treatments, including cellular therapy. In recognition of our efforts, Moffitt is the only cancer center in Florida to be designated a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. Through these important research studies, our patients are often able to benefit from novel therapies that aren’t yet available in other settings.

Latest Treatment Options

There are many types of cellular immunotherapy. Chimeric antigen receptor therapy (CAR T therapy) and T-cell receptor (TCR) therapy both involve the placement of a specific gene in a patient’s T-cells to redirect the T-cells target to destroy cancer cells. Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL)  therapy capitalizes on the fact that some tumors contain immune system cells that can become cancer fighters.

Many physicians and scientists at Moffitt have been pioneers in cellular immunotherapy through the years and it continues to be an active area of research. Through our robust clinical trials program, many of our patients have opportunities to benefit from breakthrough discoveries.
